HOW WE CAME TO BE

Kyoto State was inspired by a fervent love for coffee + a design project requiring the use of repurposed materials. The company's founder, Cara King, aspired to create a Kyoto-style cold brew coffee tower using recycled glass bottles. Teaming up with her father, Thomas Seargeant, the two designed + constructed a coffee tower that mixed beauty with functionality. The design incorporated vintage glass bottles found at a Los Angeles flea market + a tree branch discovered on a hike in the San Bernardino Mountains. After their first Kyoto coffee tower, along with the support of friends + family, the father-daughter duo decided to share their craft with the world, thus creating Kyoto State.

WHAT WE DO

Simply put, we design hand-crafted coffee towers that mix art with functionality.

WHY WE DESIGN

We incorporate recycled + repurposed materials in our designs, allowing us to bring new beauty to objects that were once old. Glass bottles excavated from historical sites + local trees* intricately carved by wood beetles set our Kyoto-style coffee towers apart.

In mixing old with new + man-made with nature-made, we strive to provide unique works of art that inspire passion + creativity for generations to come.
